Héctor Torres
Since 2019 and to the date Hector act as Head of Legal for Latin America at Trina Solar – International Systems Business Unit. In this role, Hector leads a group of Senior Counsels across Latin America with focus on Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Brazil. In this role, Hector oversees all the legal affairs of the Company. Furthermore, Hector is member of the International Investment Committee of the Company which multidisciplinary body managerial is entrusted with the authority to approve the development and M&A transactions, investments, and growth of the business across the LATAM region.
Before working for Trina Solar, from 2015 to 2019 Hector served at AES as General Counsel & Compliance Officer for the Mexican market business units as legal of-counsel for domestic and foreign clients. Hector was responsible for all the legal, ethics and compliance matters in the Country and serve as General Counsel for the organization under all the ongoing business, domestic developments in traditional and renewable power generation projects as well as in LNG and desalination recent entrepreneurs set by the Corporation for expanding AES Mexico operations and presence in Mexico.
Before that, Hector served at SunEdison as Head of Legal & Compliance Affairs for Mexico, Central America & The Caribbean and prior to that as Legal Manager for GDF SUEZ Mexico. In both positions Hector took a leading role on sundry BD and M&A matters while being responsible for leading, overseeing and supervising all the corporate, transactional and regulatory affairs of such corporations in three main business lines: traditional and renewable greenfield/brownfield developments and M&A, power generation and natural gas transmission and distribution.
In 2000, Hector began his career as Junior Associate in a boutique law firm (Philibert, De la Torre & Carrillo) practicing corporate, transactional and real estate matters. In 2001 he was invited by the General Counsel of BANOBRAS (Mexican National Development Bank) to participate as part of the In-house legal team where he specifically practiced as counsel in the Public Projects Legal-Affairs Office gaining experience in finance of domestic infrastructure financing and international funding schemes. In 2003 Hector returned to the private practice at Philibert, De la Torre and Carrillo where took office as Senior Associate acting as head of the corporate practice department. Afterwards, in 2005 Hector moved as Senior Associate at Lopez Velarde Heftye & Soria (LVHS), a prestigious energy and infrastructure boutique law firm where he specialized as legal consultant for large foreign and domestic investors participating in public and private projects in the natural gas, power generation, toll-roads, public infrastructure and public services concessions and public-private partnerships. Likewise, Hector was entrusted as head of the corporate practice of its branch clients. In 2007 and due to a Partners Spin-off at LVHS, Hector moved to Jimenez Romero & Associates (JRA) where he practiced as Senior Associate and head of the corporate and transactional practice gaining broad experience in the gas and electricity, public concessions and governmental procurement practices.
During his practice as Of Counsel, Hector has been appointed as Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Board of Directors of several domestic and transnational corporations and has actively undertaken pro-bono work, including voluntary work at Mexico’s Central Bank (Banco de México) and at the (Universidad Panamericana) Panamerican University’s Legal Aid Program.
Hector holds a law degree (2002) from the Escuela Libre de Derecho (ELD) in Mexico City.
